Overall the fishing was very slow but a quick 250 lb tail slap to the jaw of my 6’5″ 250 lb mate quickly sped up the heart rates of us all !

I recently wrote a brief bio on my # 1 passion , second only to my family of course ! Well I reached a milestone in my life not often accomplished by many , on Tuesday September 20, 2011, I fished Georges Bank! Not only did I fish it, but as a deck hand we caught Giants and I mean Giants ! Four friends on a forty-two foot Dixon that I inadvertently helped the captain locate two years ago in Gloucester, steamed 160 miles east of Marshfield for 15 hours to catch the Georges bite. And catch we did!
Leaving in the early Tuesday morning hours , we made our way in the darkness knowing the worst and praying for the best outcome. A Gale had swept off to the Northeast less than a day before which delayed our departure by seven hours. Arriving in crystal clear blue skies and a 15 foot heave, we set our baits and let Mike Pratt do what he does best-FISH!
We got em and we got em good ! Four hours later we set our GPS for home, 160 miles to go, now West for this run. I volunteered for the helm for most of the midnight watch, junior man syndrome, and these guys needed some rest. In some 100 miles I passed just four boats within a mile on radar. We chatted on Ch 11 for a bit just to confirm a friendly well-being check.
The Dixon got us through some big and tightly stacked seas with no issues, quite a boat ! And oh yea, we grabbed some air more than once on some rogue seas only to be seen crashing over the wheelhouse into the well illuminated aft deck. My kinda trip, and anxious to get there again.…
Thank guys!
